A major progress is realized and appreciated in the history of the ICT industry when the ICT practitioners met in their 02nd Annual ICT Professionals Conference on 24th to 26th October 2018 at Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre. The AIPC-18 attracted participation of more than 350 ICT Professionals and stakeholders from 137 Public, Private and Academic institutions, Development Partners, International Organizations and individuals. The Conference theme was “Towards the ICT Driven Economy” deliberating on how to advance the Tanzania economy through the use of ICT. Specifically, the Conference discussed the following thematic areas:
a. Digital Inclusion
b. ICT Local Content, Innovation and Entrepreneurship
c. Security in ICT enabled knowledge economies
d. Towards the 4th Industrial Revolution
e. Radio and Wireless Communication Technologies
f. Techniques for regulating ICT in Tanzania: Practices, Constraints and Prospects
g. Localization of ICT Equipment in-line with Government Initiatives on Industrialization
h. Demystifying Blockchain -Three buzzwords; Blockchain, Bitcoin, Cryptocurrencies, Crypto assets
i. Blockchain use case and the promise to bridge the Digital Gap in Southern Africa
j. Challenges with ICT Projects: Best Practices for effective ICT Project Management in Tanzania
Three days of Conference discussions, experience sharing and awareness came out with the following main issues to be addressed before the next conference:
i. Expedite registration of ICT Professionals. Registration of ICT Professionals will make them be recognized and implement the Continuing professional development (CPD) programs to enhance national competence on global digital industrial economy;
ii. Launch the Tanzania ICT Review publication to provide industry players with relevant sector information. The Publication will feature ICT initiatives, projects and development programs. This will encourage innovations, awareness creation of ICT affairs in Tanzania, ICT Industry business development, attract ICT investment in Tanzania and motivate career development for ICT Professionals
iii. ICT professionals to work ethically and responsibly within their areas of competence, make efficient use of the available resources, support innovation of business processes and strive to cope with the emerging ICT services.
iv. Strengthen collaboration between the ICT industry, Government and Higher Learning Institutions. The collaboration should as well focus on creation of public awareness on ICT, devise strategies to foster ICT industries development (local manufacturing) and Cybersecurity.
v. Build national capacity and promote research on Block Chain use cases that leads to job creation, economic growth and support industrialization
The 3rd Annual ICT Professionals Conference 2019 (AIPC-19) will be held in October 2019 on the date to be communicated.
